The Great American Read at Syosset Public Library

Syosset Public Library is proud to partner with PBS in its endeavor to discover THE GREAT AMERICAN READ, as voted on by the American public. The program, launched in May 2018, will culminate with the official announcement of the winning title at the end of October. Great American Read Title Selection: White Teeth by Zadie Smith

Banned Book Discussion: Tuesday, September 25. 1:30 PM

Great American Read Title Selection & 200th Anniversary: Frankenstein by Mary Shelley

Banned Book-to-Film: Friday, September 28. 2 PM

Viewing of the 1931 version of the film Frankenstein based on the Great American Read Title Selection written by Mary Shelley. A short discussion will follow the film. Monster Punch will be served by a special guest in the Theater Lobby.

Great American Read Title Swap with Librarians:    Thursday, October 4. 11:30 AM

Share the titles of your favorite books from The Great American Read selections. Together, we will discuss the titles and vote for our favorite.

 

Evening Book Discussion: Tuesday, October 9. 7:30 PM

Great American Read Title Selection: Jurassic Park by Michael Crichton  Come a little early  at 7 PM to experience Jurassic Park in Virtual Reality!

 

 

Great American Read Book Trivia: Tuesday, November 20. 2 PM

Bring your smartphone or tablet and come play The Great American Read Book Trivia with the Readers’ Services Librarians using the Kahoot! Trivia App. Please contact the Readers’ Services Department prior to the event to borrow a device for the program 516-921-7161 x 239.

Books will be available at the Circulation Desk one month before each program. Free. No registration required.
