Upcoming Books-to-Films

books to filmIf you like to read the book before you see the movie, here are five books whose film adaptations will be coming out (1 already has) during these next few months. All are available at the Syosset Public Library.

It  by Stephen King

Film premiered September 8 and stars Bill Skarsgard, Jaeden Lieberher and Finn Wolfhard.

It began–and ended–in 1958 when seven children searched in the drains beneath Derry for an evil creature, but in 1985, Mike, once one of those children, makes six phone calls and disinters an unremembered promise that sets off the ultimate terror.

Our Souls at Night by Kent Haruf

Film premieres on September 29 and stars Jane Fonda and Robert Redford.

A senior-aged widow and widower forge a loving bond over shared loneliness and respective histories, provoking local gossip and the disapproval of their grown children in ways that are further complicated by an extended visit by a sad young grandchild.

The Mountain Between Us by Charles Martin

Film premieres on October 6 and stars Kate Winslet, Idris Elba and Dermot Mulroney.

Stranded in a frigid mountain wilderness after a plane crash, a gifted surgeon and a young magazine writer are forced to rely on each other for survival while confronting painful truths about their personal lives.

The Snowman by Jo Nesbo

Film premieres on October 20 and stars Michael Fassbinder, Rebecca Ferguson and Val Kilmer.

Harry Hole investigates the disappearance of a woman whose scarf is found on a mysteriously built snowman, a case that is complicated by subsequent abductions and a menacing letter.

Thank You for Your Service by David Finkel

Film premieres October 27 and stars Haley Bennett, Miles Teller and Keisha Castle-Hughes.

Examines  the hardships faced by soldiers who have come home from service by following the men of the 2-16 Infantry Battalion originally depicted in the author’s  book The Good Soldiers.
