May’s Book Displays

The Great American Read is a list of the nation’s most beloved 100 novels (based on a national survey sponsored by PBS). These titles make up our first display on the main floor. You have probably read and enjoyed many of these books. There are also some you might want to read. Definitely worth a look, I’m sure you’ll find a good read. For me, it’s a reread of A Separate Peace by John Knowles.

The second main floor display is Spotlight on Non-Fiction in Large Print and Audio . There are tales of scandals, spy mysteries, and war stories that really happened. Included are biographies from Bruce Springsteen, Prince Charles, Pope Francis, and Abraham Lincoln to Dr. Ruth. This display also has self-help books. Truth is stranger than fiction and just as entertaining. If you haven’t tried audiobooks or need to read in a larger type size, this display is for you.

Our two main floor mini-displays are Mysteries to Die For featuring crime novels and May the 4th Be with You which features Star Wars books and a binge box of Star Wars films.  Please note: the mini-displays are subject to change during the month.

Third floor displays:

Mental Health Awareness Month is the health theme for May. Books  that cover depression, anxiety, bi-polar disorder, schizophrenia, and more,  are among the topics on this display. Learn how to deal with mental health problems at various stages of life from childhood, teens, new mothers, and in later life. There are books about how to choose a therapist and holistic care. As always there are lots of handouts.

Time to shake off cabin fever – Bye, Bye Winter! Let’s Get Outside and Explore . This display’s books are on outdoor activities such as golf, tennis, hiking (even one on hiking with your dog), camping, and kayaking. Also there are books for the home body on gardening and bird watching.
